I say opportunity because nothing is set and stone for me as a pro. Everything that pushed me during my time at UW enabled me to grow and ultimately prepared me for this opportunity. “What matters is how you pick yourself up! I didn’t end my career at UW the way I wanted to, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me from pursuing my dream of continuing on to the NWSL. “We all face challenges and get knocked down in life,” said Elston. She has her foot in the door now and the skies the limit if she keeps working hard and keeps her mind open to learning more about the game from the Dash coaches and the experienced players around her. “Randy is a great coach for Lindsay as he has seen her play with the U-20’s and when our UW team played Notre Dame,” said Gallimore. “We had several conversations about Elston prior to the NWSL draft and I’m so pleased he took a chance her and now I know he’s happy he did. With Houston, Elston will play under head coach Randy Waldrum. I still have a lot of work to do and I plan on leaving my mark, just like my fellow Huskies have.” Making the roster, playing pre-season games and signing the first contract has all been a dream, but I won't feel like I’ve truly made it in this league until I'm integral to helping my team win. I wouldn't be here without each and every one of them and the experiences we went through together. As for being one of the four, quite honestly, I don't consider myself there yet. “Not just for myself, but what it means for my school, my teammates and coaches who helped me achieve this. “I feel a sense of pride when I think about what that means,” said Elsotn. Her development during her time at UW was fun to watch, and although her senior season was a disappointment for her I’m happy to see that she could still learn and grow from a less than ideal situation and carry that resilience forward into her professional career.”Įlston is also happy to join such a talented group of Husky alums in the pros and takes the responsibility of representing her school with pride. Elston led the Dawgs in goals in 2012, but did not find the scoring touch in 2013 as part of a disappointing finish to the season. The standard has been set and I’m proud to be part of the first Houston team, but more importantly a special group of people.” To go out every day and compete with some the best players in the world has been an incredible experience. I'm just a rookie out of college, but after listening to other players’ experiences, it's clear that the Houston Dash is already one of the most well run organizations across the league. “The NWSL is one of, if not the, top league in the world. “To be living my childhood dream means more than I could ever explain,” said Elston. She has already made her debut, coming on as a reserve in the Dash’s first game last weekend. Senior Lindsay Elston earned a spot with the Houston Dash for their inaguarl season, months after finishing her Husky career last fall.Įlston joins three other former Dawgs in the NWSL, those being veterans Hope Solo and Kate Deines of the Seattle Reign and Veronica Perez of the Washington Spirit.Įlston was not drafted, but invited to the Dash camp as a trialist and earned a spot on the team.
